Scleral Spur Positioning for Suture Fixation by Ike Ahmed
The scleral spur is a more useful and consistent landmark compared to the limbus when fixating an intraocular lens or capsular device to the sclera to approximate the zonular plane. It is defined by the posterior margin of the “blue zone” and is typically 1mm thick. Passing needles 1mm posterior to the scleral spur will place the IOL at the appropriate position in the eye.
